Insurance Covering

Social accident insurance takes care of two insured events: occupational diseases and accidents at work.

Accidents at work

Accidents at work and work-related accidents are events that lead to an injury and are connected with the insured occupation or training. Accidents while commuting to work are also covered by the insurance e.g. accidents that occur on the way to the work place.

Occupational disease

An occupational disease is a health impairment caused by the insured occupation or education. Occupational diseases are listed in the Annex 1 to the General Social Insurance Act (Allgemeines Sozialversicherungsgesetz). Other diseases that are not listed in this Annex can also be covered, but their occupational causality must be proven.

Reporting

Employers or educational authorities have to inform the insurance institution about occupational accidents and diseases.
